Latvian winter wonderland

Winter are real in Latvia. Temperatures can go as low as −20 to −25 °C, and snow cover can last a few weeks for the joy of your eyes. But to my point of view, this is not that dramatic, on average the winter temperature would be around -5 °C, with a good coat and a good pair of warm boots you are set. Talking about boots, you would be surprised to see in the shops, boots with fur (or simili fur) inside, not so common for western Europe countries but here it really helps. What I also noticed is that people tend to walk fast, indeed, it is so cold that you want to get to a warm place as fast as possible ! On a practical point of you, those winter are real killers for cars, specially diesel ones. Around -15 °C or something, it would just not start. Believe me I made the experience so many times whatever the car, be it small or big. Now I know, I always carry a spare battery inside the car. It happened once, when I forgot to take my spare battery, to get stuck in the country side for 2 extra days because the car was dead. The way I fixed the problem was to put a fan heater under the hood and a cover on top for 2 hours, well, it worked out. The temperature was -17 °C.
